AI voice agent for small business

An AI voice agent answers your phone when nobody can. It picks up on the first ring at any hour, asks the questions a receptionist would ask, books the appointment straight into your calendar, and transfers the caller to a person when the call needs one. The calls it cannot take, it texts back inside a minute — which is the cheaper half of this build and usually the half that pays for it.

What problem this solves

“Half our calls come in while we are on a job, and nobody calls them back until tomorrow — by then they have booked someone else.”

A missed call is not a delayed sale. It is a sale that went to whoever answered next. Most trades and clinics run the same arithmetic without ever writing it down: calls arrive while the team is on a job or with a patient, voicemail collects them, and by the time somebody works through the list the following morning a share of those callers have already booked elsewhere.

The cost is invisible because nothing records it. There is no report showing the jobs you did not quote. The only number you have is what one new customer is worth — and the only number you need is how many calls came in after six.

Hiring for it does not fix the shape of the problem. A receptionist covers business hours, not the evening and weekend calls that a home-services or aesthetics business actually loses money on, and one person cannot answer two lines at once during the morning rush.

What it gives back

Every after-hours call answered, qualified and on the calendar instead of on a voicemail nobody plays back.

Market contextThe voice-agent segment is growing roughly 39–47% a year, and inbound agents — reception, booking, support — already account for more than half of sector revenue. What runs, end to end

An AI voice agent is a 24/7 receptionist that answers, qualifies, books and transfers — plus its easier little brother: calling a missed number back by SMS or WhatsApp in under 60 seconds.

Who this is for

Businesses where the phone is still the front door and a booked slot is the unit of revenue: home services, healthcare and aesthetics clinics, real estate, professional services taking new matters by phone.

It earns its place fastest at the point where call volume outgrows the person answering — typically a small business with more than one van, one chair or one agent, and any single-operator business whose work makes answering impossible for hours at a time.

It is a poor fit where calls are rare and every one is a complex negotiation. If your typical call runs forty minutes and no two are alike, the missed-call text-back on its own is the build worth doing.

Frequently asked questions

Will callers know they are talking to a machine?
Yes, and the agent says so. We disclose it on every call — it is both the honest thing and, increasingly, the legal one. In practice callers mind far less than owners expect, provided the agent is fast, gets the booking right, and hands over to a person the moment it is out of its depth.
What happens when it does not understand?
It transfers, and it transfers early. An agent that keeps guessing is worse than no agent. We set the handoff threshold with you and log every transfer, so after a few weeks you can see exactly which call types it should learn and which it should keep passing on.
Can it book into the calendar we already use?
That is the normal case. Google Calendar and the mainstream practice-management and field-service systems all expose the availability and booking endpoints we need. If yours does not, we say so before you pay anything — it changes the scope and sometimes it changes the recommendation.
What does it cost to run, on top of the build?
Voice minutes and the model are billed at cost plus 20%, or you bring your own keys and pay the provider directly. The maintenance plan on top covers monitoring, alerting and changes. We size the monthly figure against your real call volume on the audit call rather than quoting an average.
How long before it is live?
A missed-call text-back alone is usually a Starter build, one to two weeks. A full inbound agent that qualifies, books and transfers is Growth or Scale territory — three to eight weeks depending on how many systems it has to touch. You see working software every Friday either way.

How many calls come in after six, and what is one new customer worth to you?

Figures on this page are public industry benchmarks, not results measured on Amagenon client accounts. We will size the numbers against your own data on the audit call.
